JOHN WAYNE “THE DUKE”

The legendary John Wayne (1907-1979) starred in over 150 films in his long career. The first ten years of it were spent acting in many low-budget B-Westerns. Wayne became a major player when John Ford cast him in STAGECOACH (1939), which became his first classic Western. During the 1940s his star was on the rise and he became a hero in westerns and World War II dramas. He co-starred with many top Hollywood stars, including Marlene Dietrich, Kirk Douglas, Jean Arthur, James Stewart, Joan Crawford, Susan Hayward, Robert Mitchum, Lana Turner, Rock Hudson, Lauren Bacall, Rita Hayworth, Katharine Hepburn, Dean Martin and Claudette Colbert. He appeared in five films with his most frequent leading lady, Maureen O’Hara. He made many memorable movies over the years and won an Oscar for the film TRUE GRIT.
