Welcome to our monthy feature, Spotlight On… where we will feature a famous actor/actress. This month, we have our spotlight on Esther Williams.
ESTHER WILLIAMS
Aquatic star Esther Williams made many successful films in the 1940s and 1950s. She shines in this new set of swimming spectaculars now out on DVD.
The tagline says it all: “musical bliss with every kiss!” as Esther finds a THRILL OF A ROMANCE with Van Johnson.
The great Schnozzle himself, Jimmy Durante, gets into some funny business with Esther in THIS TIME FOR KEEPS. Luckily he can hold his breath a long time!
Tropical island girl Esther falls in love with Ohio schoolteacher Howard Keel in PAGAN LOVE SONG.
The true story of another star, Australian swimming champion Annette Kellerman, is told in MILLION DOLLAR MERMAID. Co-starring Victor Mature & Walter Pidgeon.
In an imaginative bit of casting Esther and Ricardo Montalban play twin bullfighters, Maria & Mario Morales, in FIESTA. Co-starring Mary Astor as their mother (Senora Morales), and Cyd Charisse as Conchita!
Cypress Gardens’ swimming star Esther gets to choose between two admirers (Van Johnson & Tony Martin) in EASY TO LOVE.
You’ll find Esther Williams easy to love in these entertaining films! And don’t forget to check out many other classic movies in the Audio Visual Services collection!
It’s hard to believe that 2009 is approaching its end. Sigh…so many memories. It goes without saying that Audio Visual Services has been very dedicated this year. Let’s take a moment to recap some of its major accomplishments, shall we:
* February: AVS hosted a Lincoln Celebration with 150 in attendance for the general public and 550 school children.
* May: The Hausmann String Quartet entertained about 100 in the auditorium with beautiful arrangements of classical music.
*Throughout the year: AVS has circulated an astonishing 60,000 items per MONTH…wow!!!! In addition, 54 film programs have been held with a grand total of 3600 people attending…Whew!
The department of AVS is proud to have carried out so many meaningful services this year. All programs were free to the public. It is our desire—no –it is our resolve to make 2010 a great year as well!
School’s back in session and every student knows what that means: tons of homework and reading assignments! AVS offers a large assortment of classic and popular books on CD as well as downloadables too, making reading assignments both convenient and enjoyable. Just imagine the possibilities: Going about life’s daily activities, perhaps driving to your next class while the book reads to YOU. Need additional help in math, history, and science? No problem. Check out the department’s vasy array of DVDs and VHS on these very subjects. There’s even a collection of audio and video materials for those struggling with a foreign language. After taking advantage of all AVS has to offer, one will find that they have extra time to spare. So, go ahead and take a load off with a good movie or CD also found in AVS… you deserve it!
